David Hirsh

David Hirsh is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics in the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, where he also served as Department Chairman from 1990 until 2003. In addition, during 2001 and 2002, he served as Interim Dean for Research at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 2003, he was appointed as Columbia University’s first Executive Vice President for Research and served in that capacity until 2011.

Dr. Hirsh also pursued an active career in the biotechnology industry as a co-founder of Synergen, Inc., served on the boards of several biotechnology companies and as a scientific advisor to Warburg Pincus.

Dr. Hirsh serves on the Board of Directors of the Agouron Institute, is a Trustee Emeritus of Rockefeller University and is chairman of the board of the New York Structural Biology Center.
